Chinatown is not just for Tourists!

Be a Part of the Growing Chicago Chinatown Real Estate Scene

Chinatown is a thriving, bustling community. In fact, it’s one of the only Chinatowns in the United States that is seeing growth! Take a walk around at the intersection of Cermak Road and Wentworth Ave and you will see the heart of Chinatown, a vibrant, growing Chicago real estate scene. In addition to incredible restaurants representing just about every region of China, you’ll see new hotels, an award-winning public library, and the Wells-Wentworth Connector, a multi-phase project creating a new road between the Loop and Chinatown.

Just a few blocks north of the hustle and bustle, you can enjoy the peaceful setting of Ping Tom Memorial Park or catch a water taxi into the Loop. Surrounding this iconic and historic area are numerous townhomes, single-family homes, and condos for sale in Chinatown. All within walking distance to the CTA red line and green line, or a pleasant walk or bike ride to the Loop! It is also super easy to hop on the Stevenson I-55 and the Dan Ryan I-90/94.

Chinatown Geography

Originally established at Clark Street and Van Buren Street, the Chinatown community moved further south to its present location in 1912. Chinatown Square, a two-level open courtyard with restaurants, salons, shopping and offices just North of the main Wentworth Ave. District, was established in the 1980’s.

Just minutes south of the Loop, Chinatown boundaries are:
• 18th street to the north,
• S. Normal to the west,
• S. Clark to the east, and
• 24th place to the south.

Zip codes for Chinatown are 60616 and 60608.

Chinatown Amenities

chinatown-livingThe Chinatown Gate on Wentworth and Cermak marks the entrance of the “Old Chinatown” area of the neighborhood. New Chinatown consists of Chinatown Square and many of the new businesses on Archer Ave.

There is much to see and do in Chinatown. Just west of the Cermak Red Line station, you’ll find the Nine Dragon Wall, a reproduction of a wall located in Beijing and one of only three officially sanctioned walls outside of China. The wall consists of nine large dragons and over 500 smaller ones. Dragons are considered culturally sacred and nine is considered a lucky number.

Ping Tom Memorial Park is a beautiful green space complete with walking paths, trees, a playground, and a Chinese garden. The park includes a stunning Chinese-style pavilion, as well as a kayak launch where you can rent or launch your own kayak on the Chicago River. On the northeast side of the park, you can find the park’s field house with an indoor pool, gym, fitness room, and meeting spaces.

Visit the Chinatown library, a recipient of a national design award from the American Institute of Architects and the American Library Association.

Enjoy one of the many exciting celebrations throughout the year in Chinatown. The Lunar New Year parade in February, includes marching bands, floats, and traditional dancing lion and dragon teams. In June, take a walk over to the Chicago River to watch the Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy. A portion of the proceeds from the event goes to local schools and organizations. 32 dragon boat race teams compete on the south branch of the Chicago River in exquisitely decorated dragon boats. What’s a summer without a community fair? Celebrate Asian culture with food, music, and art. The Summer Fair takes place in July and includes craft vendors, as well as martial arts demonstrations, and musical and dance performances.

Chinatown also features a number of museums, including the Heritage Museum of Asian Art  and the Chinese American Museum. The Heritage Museum displays a wide range of art from various time periods spanning many Asian cultures. The Chinese American Museum has rotating exhibits and highlights the history of the neighborhood.

"Terri made it as simple as possible"

"The first-time home buying process is daunting, but Terri made it as simple as possible for me and my wife. She walked us through every step and thoroughly explained what was happening and why... She was honest and frank when we visited listings, letting us know whether she considered if what we saw was worth our time or might be more trouble than its worth... She'll be the first person we call whenever we decide to sell our house and we couldn't recommend her services enough.
